Colchester United's proposed move to a new stadium has been an ongoing situation for some thirty or more years now, but as the 2005/6 season approaches, the U's - and the town of Colchester - stand closer than ever to fulfilling their dream of a new sports facility. Since the middle of 2004, there has been significant progress with regard to the plans at Cuckoo Farm. Much of this progress has come since October 2004. The current administration at Colchester Council has made big strides towards completion of the new community stadium and, at the time of writing, completion in time for the start of the 2007/8 season remains the target.

The largest, and original University campus is based at Wivenhoe Park on the outskirts of Colchester in north Essex. Set in over 200 acres of attractive parkland, much of it landscaped in the eighteenth century, the Colchester Campus is a mixture of 1960s buildings and more recent additions including the recently opened 1000-seater Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall.
Sixteen of the Universitys academic departments are based at the Colchester Campus. They are housed in a series of bustling squares, all inter-linked, designed by architect Kenneth Capon. The close proximity of the academic departments was designed to reflect, and nurture, the inter-disciplinary nature of teaching and research at the University.
