UK Pubs & Restaurants

The city has a huge range of pubs, bars and restaurants. Originally clustered around the Quayside and the famous Bigg Market, venues are now expanding to take in the popular Central Station area, the 'Pink Triangle' (by the Centre for Life) the Haymarket and The Gate - a cinema/pub/restaurant mall.

Pubs/Bars

Union Rooms

This popular Newcastle pub had a major refurbishment in February with 3 new bars installed. The layout is mostly the same and should have no problem attracting the crowds with a range of real ales, foreign bottled beers and new superchilled beer and wines available. There is special deals on drinks and meals every day making it one of the most reasonably priced venues in town.

O'Neills

Large Irish theme pub that is full of character. The pub was ormerly known as 'The Vick and Comet' and was featured in the film 'Get Carter'. There is a long wooden bar and a wooden floor with new mahogany fixtures throughout. The walls are adorned with all sorts of Irish memorabilia and the decor is a mixture of red, cream and green colours.

There is a notice displayed from the pub management offering you 'Cead Mile Failte' (One Hundred thousand welcomes). The main bar area has comfortable leather backed seating down one side with some leather settees. There are also several wooden tables and chairs throughout the bar. To the right of the main entrance is a small no smoking area with additional seating that is used for diners.

The Earl Grey

Traditional style pub that is situated on the main road through Gosforth. The pub can be accessed from two entrances to the front and side. The bar is located to the left of the main entrance. There is plenty of seating throughout for diners with a raised area to the front of the pub. The lighting is dark and subdued throughout.

Restaurants

TGI Friday's

Famous for fresh food and generous portions and a cocktail list longer than your arm served with dazzling bar-tending skills. We have become the ultimate destination for diners looking for something distinctive and different.

Blackfriars Restaurant

With its origins dating back to 1239 and a long and turbulent history that included a spell as a hostel to accommodate King Henry III, Blackfriars is undeniably unique. But today Blackfriars Restaurant is one of the most recognised restaurants in Newcastle - Blackfriars was recently awarded ‘Best restaurant in the North East by readers of The Observer in their coveted Food Awards and was also Metro Newspaper’s ‘Restaurant of the Year’. It has also gained an AA rosette and inclusion in the Which? Good Food Guide and Michelin Guide.
